The month's image was taken at a local pumpkin carving/Halloween celebration. A contest was held for all pumpkin carvers, then the finished pieces were displayed at night. This particular pumpkin caught my eye because it was so well lit from inside. Taken with my Sony a6500, Tamron 18-70mm lens, at ISO 800 for 1/2 second at f5. Braced myself against a tree to steady the long exposure. Processed in ON1 Photo RAW applying some heavy noise reduction, reducing some of the worst blown highlights and adding a slight boost in shadows and contrast. A touch of Clarity was painted into the features in the middle of the pumpkin.

Perfect for the season! Nice focus with good details. The black background is perfect!   Posted: 10/21/2024 15:30:01

The image has a lot of impact and really catches the eye. When I first saw it, I thought that it was a balloon because of the detail. It is hard to believe that it is a carved pumpkin. When my kids were small I was doing good when I got a simple eyes, nose and mouth carved. Orange on black is the perfect way to go. You have great depth of field to have the curved pumpkin sharp from edge to edge. It is very sharp for a long exposure without using a tripod -- great job.   Posted: 10/21/2024 17:59:30

It took me a moment to realise this was a pumpkin. Like Tom, I thought at first it was a balloon. Great image for the season.   Posted: 10/29/2024 08:27:27
