About the Image(s)

Shot on a Canon EOS 30D 9-21-13, mid-afternoon along the coast of Maine. 1/500 sec, f/13, 800 ISO, 39mm lens, no flash used. This was a post-PSA Conference drive. Most of this trip along the coast of Maine into Canada was dim and rainy, so it was a treat to shoot sun-bathed boats. I always planned to frame the scene with this sturdy boat-hoist, so after I straightened its posts slightly in Adobe Photoshop Camera Raw and corrected the white balance (which enhanced the blues), all I had to do was downsize to apply AlienSkin SnapArt. With a white vignette, the Color Pencil effect reminded me of watercolor. I re-layered it in Photoshop so that I could re-darken the corners of the "frame" and bring back some sharpness.

A great concept - good eye to see this composition. It is wonderful. The white balance correction you applied was an excellent choice; as was straightening the framework of the hoist. The red ropes really draw me into the front boats; especially the red bottomed one. I also love the texture that the color pencil effect gave the image. I wouldn't change a thing. Great job.   Posted: 09/14/2021 17:00:38

Genius to have spotted this and have been in the right place at the right time! The red rope and the red on the boat add so much. I like the coloration with blues. The white vignette edges are a wonderful addition too. Why did you leave so much space at the top? I'd make this a canvas print.   Posted: 09/18/2021 09:43:34

Great spotting and very well transformed to a great painting. A great print and I agree with Trey to put it on canvas.   Posted: 09/21/2021 01:59:47

Your image has a Very unique framing and grabs my attention especially with your use of the white vignette. An interesting and creative image with such calming soft and warm colors.   Posted: 09/24/2021 18:18:18
