About the Image(s)

Multiple shots from a Panasonic DMC-FZ150 camera taken on 3-10-15 at about 4:50 p.m. were combined: The main shot I used was cloned out in the lower right corner, 2 sunlit flying birds and a branch hung with Spanish Moss came from the other shots. It was surprising how quietly and swiftly these birds flew in to roost together before sunset in Florida. The camera data was: 1/1600 sec., f/4, ISO400, lens 25.9mm. Afterwards, Alienskin Snapart's Impasto Vignette filter was used to render the painting.

Great concept to combine multiple shots into a composite. I like the impasto texture on the tree and sky as it gives the image great depth. I would personally eliminate/clone out the entire clump of branches in the lower right (especially as this branch is not visually connected to the main trunk); this would give great negative space on the top and bottom right side of the entire image. If possible, I might also try to get the birds a bit sharper by perhaps lessening the impasto on them. LOVE the branch with the Spanish moss!!!   Posted: 07/11/2021 13:27:29

Hi Pat, the branches and birds are a nice subject but the current image appears to me to be a bit too busy. My eye doesn't know where to look, and the part white birds at the top tend to take my eye out of the image. There is an image here and in just playing around I found this selection in my visual feedback image as a suggestion. I am sure there are a few more alternative crops.   Posted: 07/16/2021 15:39:07

Lots of potential and possible changes. I agree with Nancy's crop suggestion and I also go with Cindy in getting more detail in the birds.   Posted: 07/19/2021 04:18:22

I really like your choice of Impression with this image. It doesn't bother me that the birds are sharper - that's what paintings of this nature give up. The tree top at bottom right is a distraction as others have pointed out. I have included a crop also as to what I see as the action of the image. I like the lighting from the sun on the birds and the sense of community it conveys.   Posted: 07/19/2021 17:31:18

Trey, I think your version preserves the awesome feeling I had from seeing such a great number of silent, sunstruck birds in their evening community while it keeps the exotic look of the Spanish moss. I didn't want to remove too much of the scene that contributed to that feeling. I have to agree with you and Nancy that the empty birdless branch in the lower right didn't add to the scene, after all.   Posted: 07/21/2021 18:49:12
