About the Image(s)

Paul and I participated in a night photography of trains event at a local railway museum. While waiting for the sun to go down, I choose to shoot some of the junk treasure around the train yard.
In this trash area, I found one interesting motor. I used “find Edges” in Photoshop and reduced to black and white. I then used a mask and brought back the part I found interesting. I then added additional saturation and took it into Topaz. Here I added two different remix presets. Then in Photoshop, I added the oil paint filter and a stroke.

This really was the epitome of "turning trash into treasure." A very interesting and wonderful final rendition. You don't even have to know what it is; your intuition just tells you that you love it. The red and "sepia" like tones work well together. The red stroke and it's drop shadow add depth. Parts of the composition outside the "frame" add dimension. I wouldn't change a thing.   Posted: 05/12/2021 15:17:38

This is a departure from your usual themes, Nancy, and it looks just plain fun rather than depressing old junk. I applaud the combination of the sketched-looking areas with the painted pieces whose colors really stand out. The addition of the matching stroke with the bright hot pink is a great finishing touch.   Posted: 05/22/2021 22:50:11

Thank you Pat. I am never sure about the stroke. It is a carry-over from PPA where the Presentation is scored as well as the image.   Posted: 05/24/2021 14:21:28

WOW! That was my initial reaction, definitely out of the comfort box and you were successful. Great way to make a statement pro/con on a community/neighborhood issue I would think. This modern rendition is inspiring for me and I will try it this summer during my boredom period because it is so challenging. I very much like the inner red frame. Would you put this on canvas since the art goes to the edges or maybe metal?   Posted: 05/23/2021 11:02:28

Thank you Trey. Yes, I use strokes and borders even when the work is framed. As I said in Pat's reply, I have been involved in Professional Photographers of America for years and here the score in competition prints also includes the final presentation which means borders and strokes. It is something I just like to do. Here are the 12 elements that PPA for scoring and a great Mind Map of them.   Posted: 05/24/2021 14:34:06

This is crazy gorgeous!
I really like how you reduced the background to an edges sketch.
The red splashes add so much more. Well done.   Posted: 05/29/2021 15:10:54
