Brookside Portrait by Pauline Jaffe

June 2022 - Brookside Portrait

About the Image(s)

I went to Brookside Gardens, a frequent jaunt of mine and a top-rated Gardens in the Washington D.C. area. I was looking for inspiration and many times I can find new flowers, ducks, a butterfly, etc.

As I was getting out of my car a party had just gotten out of their car and they were getting ready for birthday pictures for their 14 -year-old daughter. She was dressed so beautifully with a "Cinderella" dress and I asked her if I could take photos of her before she went to meet the photographer and she agreed. I sent her the best images I took.

That was the best inspiration I had at Brookside Gardens!

Taken with my Nikon 5600

This young lady is captivating and her family must be very happy to have this image! You've captured a lovely sheen to her skin and the most charming interaction. I wonder if a bit of exposure lightening around her eyes and lower forehead would be possible through split-filter editing -- it might catch more light in her eyes than we see here. I may well be using the terms incorrectly but it reflects what I'd try to play around with if it were my image.   Posted: 06/15/2022 20:06:00

Sweet photo. Nice that the family was OK with taking the picture since people are so suspicious these days. The dress is very sharp. As mentioned by Zina, the face could be brightened a bit.   Posted: 06/20/2022 14:18:33

A sweet photo and a nice portrait. The trouble I have is the shallow depth of field isn't focused on her eyes/face thus her dress is really sharp but the face isn't. We always want to get those eye sharp whether wildlife or people. Probably need to adjust your focus point or have shot this at F/5.6 or so. You got the lighting done well accenting her hair and a bit of her face. I am sure she liked it, I just know from past portrait clients they wouldn't have been happy with the face not being sharply in focus.   Posted: 06/22/2022 13:59:09
