Navy Ships in Baltimore by Alec Chester

October 2021 - Navy Ships in Baltimore

About the Image(s)

While in Baltimore harbor I saw these two Navy cargo ships under repair. I was struck by the pairing, the size, the ropes that created lines and the bright anti-fouling paint on the bottom.

It was taken with a Canon Powershot G3X at EFL of 600 mm, at 1/800 sec, f/5.6 with an ISO of 125.

I enhanced it by using “Basic fix” in Topaz Studio and the changed the sky in Luminar 4.

(BTW: a new Luminar (Luminar Neo) is coming out in several months and can effortlessly remover power lines.)

You are so good at capturing lines and angles to make them so interesting! The sharp details and bright orange paint plus the large pairing and angles make this pop. The glimpse of the harbor at bottom left accents the two huge cargo ships that dominate the image. Well done!   Posted: 10/10/2021 16:49:04

The very large ships complement each other, The lines and their shadows add an interesting abstract to image. The dock and the sky hold it all together, well done.   Posted: 10/17/2021 09:17:16

I like how the ships are positioned with each other and how the ropes with the shadows lead my eye around. The harbor in the background give the ships a place.

This is a very interesting image and the Navy ships give the image a sense of their size in the harbor. The image is sharp and in focus I like the way the two ships compliment each other. I love the ropes and lines made from the ropes in shadow as well as the angles.
One thing you may want to consider is that while you have a cloudy sky above the ships, there is sun both bouncing off the boat and to the left of the ship on the ground.
Nice image.   Posted: 10/19/2021 20:32:58

A very balanced image, the lines and shadows of the lines make and interesting image on their own. Love it as it is.   Posted: 10/21/2021 00:29:28
