Orchids by Marianne Shine

July 2021 - Orchids

About the Image(s)

We finally escaped hibernation with the pandemic and drove from our home in southeast Florida to Florida's west coast, where we visited the botanical gardens in Naples. There was a whole section full of many different orchids and these were among them.

I cropped and did some retouching, increased saturation and sharpen/intensity and decreased brilliance, exposure, contrast, shadows, and vibrance.

Love the image. I think you nailed the focus and depth of field. To me the composition is perfect. The image leads my eyes from the front orchid back and left but the lack of a visual border hints at a continued story unseen. That encourages me to scan back along the subjects. In my opinion the foliage is properly exposed just enough to add depth and provide a nice frame for the blooms. Very nicely done.   Posted: 07/09/2021 14:08:07

This is such a beautiful image Marianne. There is not a lot I can add to Kurtis' comments he has nailed it!. The only thing I would suggest.... in the top RH corner there is a little spot you might like to try cloning out. Otherwise this is a perfect image that would look lovely in print hanging on a wall.   Posted: 07/10/2021 23:44:42

When I cloned out the little spot at the top, I saw two tiny ones at the bottom and got rid of those too!   Posted: 07/17/2021 17:42:11

This is a very nice image, sharp and clear. The curve of the orchids is a definite plus filling the frame in an eye-pleasing way. The black background really makes the photo.   Posted: 07/27/2021 07:13:34

Having seen the original version Marianne good job on the cloning and those dust spots. :) I like the subject placement and arcing composition and the darker background for the greenery so the flower pop. Good job!   Posted: 07/28/2021 07:36:58
