Abandoned Bridge by Alec Chester

July 2021 - Abandoned Bridge

About the Image(s)

Here is my image for July. It was taken of an abandoned bridge in north Georgia at 1/400, f/4.0, ISO 125 at 25 mm from a Canon Powershot G3X.

I then decreased the highlights in Lightroom and changed it to monochrome in Silver Effex Pro.

What a really nice monochrome. There is so much I like starting with your choice to go monochrome. The leading lines of the bridge take my eyes back in time to a day when this bridge was new. I like that you have a subject to discover at the end of my optical journey. The bent rail hints at a disaster unknown but adds to the mystery. The image appears properly focused and exposed. I really like that the bridge bed is brighter and I think that does wonders to draw my eyes back to it. The added grunge texture is a nice touch. Well done.   Posted: 07/09/2021 14:21:18

What an awesome find Alec. Like Kurtis I wonder what caused the bent railing, so the image evokes mystery and the need to find out what happened. The modern car at the end of the abandoned bridge present a juxtaposition to this image. I would like to see a little more contrast in this image. it seems a little flat to me, the toning of the trees and the bridge are very similar.   Posted: 07/10/2021 23:36:04

This is nice with a hint of mystery, enhanced by the monochrome treatment. A bit more contrast would add to the mystic.   Posted: 07/24/2021 15:16:24

I didn't really notice the church at first. The pipes on the lower left really drew me in, they have some cool gritty detail and then provide that nice leading line into the background elements. A bit of mid-tone contrast and lower highlight might give some pop to the image perhaps? Otherwise nice job.   Posted: 07/28/2021 07:41:05
