Denali Sunset by Dr Dave Chambers

June 2021 - Denali Sunset

About the Image(s)

took this image in Alaska near Denali National Park a while back. During the Pandemic when my wife and I stayed home for the year, I revisited some of my old images (thank goodness for old RAW files) to see what I can do with them using new technologies. This image was taken with a Nikon D2X using a 28-300mm zoom lens. My exposure was 1/250 sec at f7.6. The focal length was 28mm with an ISO of 100. I cleaned up a variety of items floating in the water in Photoshop and used Luminar AI to give it a "golden hour" look. I'm so glad that I have these older RAW files to play with and so happy that I didn't shoot exclusively in jpg back in the day. Software like Gigapixel has allowed me to enlarge these images without loss of quality and put them on my wall or gift them to friends.

Such a peaceful looking photo. There are some nice tones in the trees and the reflections are awesome. I would like to see the sky reflections, in the water, a little stronger to match the sky.   Posted: 06/13/2021 20:15:38

Wonderful colors and reflection. Just my opinion, I like the sky reflection as is, to keep my eyes more focused at the top. Great job using raw with new technologies.   Posted: 06/14/2021 18:04:53

Beautiful light and awesome reflection. A photo where I want wider to see more of both. Great detail in the trees. Going back to a D2X is going back quite a ways, I had mine IR converted after a long life of regular usage. I also applaud you for shooting raw, reprocessing older photos is an interesting process with some of the newer enhancements in RAW processing. Back to the photo not much that I can really suggest changing.   Posted: 06/20/2021 09:36:07

Gorgeous sunset! Definitely has the "golden hour" look. I'll have to look into Luminar AI. I wonder how many pixels the old Nikon had? Gigapixel certainly filled it out nicely.   Posted: 06/25/2021 06:07:51
