About the Image(s)

For my Camera Club's Annual Photo Challenge, we are randomly assigned a "grid" (or specific location) in our local town that we must shoot our photos and create an image to put on display.
This year, the only interesting thing in my grid full of homes was a playground. Eureka! I found it.
This composite is made up of only original images from the playground and assembled in Photoshop. I used the pen curvature tool to cut out the shapes I wanted from the original photo and then used the warp tool to place them in the shape and attitude that was pleasing to me. For example: the arms and hands are just the red pole and "mushroom" topper structure that I turned upside down and warped into place. The eyes are made from the round marquee tool. I used the radial blur tool on Zoom at 100% 4 times to make them glow. The skirt was the cork fill in the climbing wall turned sideways and colored using the blend mode. The earrings and the forehead jewel are made from a night shot when my husband shone a flashlight through the grid on the climbing structure.
I made generous use of the Bevel and Emboss FX on all the body parts to add dimension. Finally, the background is a graphic that was on the sides of the slide that I tiled and colored

You definitely lived up to the challenge. Seeing the spirit in those images is quite a creative feat. The colors have an Asian cast to them and support the idea of your spirit. Nicely done.

Kathy, You continue to impress me with your commitment to taking on photo challenges. You've certainly succeeded in creating an interesting image. I used to love challenging a fellow photographer to capture an image with a specific theme and find this helps create great focus and increased enjoyement.   Posted: 09/13/2021 15:57:26

Thanks Brad! I love challenges because it helps me grow as a photographer and as a digital artist.
Maybe something to consider in one of our groups?   Posted: 09/19/2021 19:37:11

Fabulous image, Kathy!
I think it's serenely beautiful. The composition is perfectly balanced and the colors are wonderful. I really like how the top green butterfly shape merges in the line towards the bottom of the face. It adds a bit of disorientation for me while also giving me a feeling of total integration. Not sure if I've expressed that well, but the dichotomy translates into fascination for me.
I think you have created something incredible from a totally unexpected set of originals.

Personally, I would consider bringing down the brightness of the arms and hands down a little bit. They draw my eyes away from those beautiful green eyes, which I do want to keep looking at.   Posted: 09/22/2021 09:46:37
