Fall Contemplation by Rusty Pinckney

January 2022 - Fall Contemplation

About the Image(s)

Again I looked into the archives for a submission. I shot this image with my first digital camera, a Panasonic DMC-FZ20 when I visited Santa Fe, New Mexico in the fall of 2005. I was drawn to this bench, set in a lovely shaded setting with fall leaves on the sidewalk. It invited rest and contemplation. Post-editing I used Elements to crop, alter the lighting, and eliminate distractions.

What a beautiful restful rustic scene. And how timely with all the contemplative moments covid has been giving us.   Posted: 01/05/2022 19:32:25

Thank you Arabella. Though the image was taken before the pandemic, it seems even more poignant today.   Posted: 01/24/2022 23:48:41

Love the bench and its setting. I would definitely be inclined to take a seat and soak in the surroundings.

With the central position of the bench, I felt it didn't have enough focal draw, so I cropped some to bring it more into the foreground. I also added some clarity and warmed up the colors to give more of a fall feel. What do you think?   Posted: 01/17/2022 10:07:33

Tom, Thank you. I loved this spot. You made some interesting changes. I'm inclined to go midway between your crop and the original. Agree with Miriam that the level of saturation is too intense.   Posted: 01/24/2022 23:47:24

This is a wonderful, restful image. The viewer immediately places himself/herself on the bench. While I rarely do anything with textures, I think they could work well with this image as another option.   Posted: 01/17/2022 11:40:11

Lovely image. I agree with Tom's crop but not his level of saturation. I think It's a little too much on the bench. Works well on the leaves though   Posted: 01/21/2022 04:43:30

Love the closer crop but not the enhanced coloration.
