About the Image(s)

This was taken on my local beach which is part of the Dublin Bay Biosphere and Nature Reserve. At low tide, the seals are often at the north end just chilling. Taken on my Canon 70D with Tamron 150-600mm lens. Basic edit and crop done in Lightroom.

I love it! I put your image through Topaz DeNoise and Topaz Sharpen. I then cropped a little more, to show the cute fase of this Pup.   Posted: 07/10/2021 11:22:10

Nice capture. It's hard for me to tell, but I think the tail is in focus - but the eyes are not. Can you tell on the original? (I do that all the time.)

Is that the v1 or v2 version of the Tamron? I had the v1, and sold it as I didn't find it to be super sharp. I think the v2 is sharper.   Posted: 07/11/2021 17:31:27

The eyes actually are sharp. I thought the same originally but did a bit of tweaking and got it printed.   Posted: 07/12/2021 05:40:01

Nice. A bit of an optical illusion.   Posted: 07/12/2021 09:48:00

I can sort of see what you're saying, but a close look reveals that it's only one pup.   Posted: 07/15/2021 15:32:05

I really enjoyed photographing the seals in California. Finding a pup on its own like this is rare and the look on its face tells a story of panic setting in.

Stuart was on the right track with his crop. The pup is rather lost in all that space.

A couple of other things I can suggest to take this to another level: straighten the horizon, darken the sand, and give some color to the water to help the pup pop a bit more. Following is my take on it. Thoughts?   Posted: 07/15/2021 15:36:22

Good points there. Not sure about the square crop but it does need to be tighter   Posted: 07/16/2021 01:02:02

I've tried capturing seal images, too, and never got a solitary animal. Kudos for capturing this cutie! I agree that cropping makes the image stronger.   Posted: 07/16/2021 21:04:25

I love this! The seal has such a sweet face and I like the composition with the closer crop.   Posted: 07/21/2021 19:41:13
