Sunset at Lake Powell by Rusty Pinckney

June 2021 - Sunset at Lake Powell

About the Image(s)

I shot this image with my Canon Power Shot SX10IS while on our photography club’s outing to Northern Arizona. This image of Lake Powell was shot at the end of the golden hour when the red rocks were glowing. Post-editing, I used Elements to crop for the composition of the rocks and eliminate distractions. My challenge was to get rid of unwanted noise. Suggestions welcomed.

Nice image. I didn't notice the noise - or felt it was an issue.   Posted: 06/18/2021 12:10:54

If you study the water, you'll see the noise, but it's not a major distraction for my eyes - more like grain.   Posted: 06/18/2021 17:56:42

the light is magical!! the scenery is unbelievable and you have done a great job of denoising it. i am looking for one if tom's dinosaurs in the foreground for contrast in scale.   Posted: 06/19/2021 18:55:55

Lovely vista, Rusty. Even without my added dino, the marina gives a good sense of scale. I do think there was a very slight tilt to the horizon and there was a bit too much sky. I thought it could use a bit more contrast and a wee bit of brightening. What do you think?   Posted: 06/20/2021 13:56:50
