About the Image(s)

Another sunset from Botswana on the Chobe River…we were in a boat and just about to leave the Park when i captured the sun setting with the trees adding a bit of interest. It was a wonderful peaceful scene and the elephants were continuing to eat the grasses nearby! I did post in Lightroom just moving the Highlight/Whte and the Shadow/Black sliders. I cropped the water a bit as i didn’t want the small foliage floating in the bottom left of the picture but i guess i wanted to show more water then i could clean it up. Shot with my Canon 5D Mark IV, 100-400 mm lens. 1/250, F10 ISO 800.

It is beautiful and a destination way up on my bucket list. I like your crop but in comparing it to the original, it looks like you took off some glow from the sun. I think I would try to process in the other direction and attempt to boost the glow of the sun to help balance the weight of the trees. I think I would also remove what looks like a dead tree trunk just on the side of the sun.   Posted: 07/09/2021 14:35:36

Thanks Mike and yes you should get to Botswana it offers wonderful photographic opportunities which are different from Kenya/Tanzania. Yes i will remove the dead tree and thanks for your suggestions of boosting the sun's glow...will look at that.   Posted: 07/14/2021 16:27:31

I like your crop. There is just enough water to tell the story but the main story is the sunset. The colors are lovely. I tried opening your image in Bridge and simply raised shadows. I could see your tree leaves clearly.   Posted: 07/09/2021 17:46:11

Wonderful colors and dramatic silhouette. There are two images here. Your cropped version emphasizes the bank and trees, and it imparts a feeling of motion as though I were traveling that river in a boat. I also really like the water patterns, glow and reflections in the original. A little processing would bring it all out. I also felt drawn to flipping both images horizontally and I really love the results.   Posted: 07/11/2021 15:07:28

The color palette in your image is very nice, in my opinon. I like the silhouette and would not try to open up the shadows - in fact I night consider going the other direction. My only other suggestion would be to saturate blud and play with blue luminance - move the slier to the left and see what you think. Well done.   Posted: 07/12/2021 12:05:36

A beautiful sunset image. I like your crop as it takes the land mass out of the center of the image. I think you could leave a little more of the water to show more of the sun reflection. I agree with Mike in removing the stump or stick just to the right of the sun. I also like the tree silhouette and would also pull the shadows down a bit as I don't think we need to see the details in the tree. A very peaceful, calming image. Well done.   Posted: 07/13/2021 17:09:04

Thanks Pamela...will show a bit more of the water but was worried that the small debris floating in it on the left would be a distraction which is why i cropped it slightly. Good suggestions thanks!   Posted: 07/14/2021 16:35:05

I think the image is quite well done: the darkness of the trees works for me.

My only two suggestions are firstlike Mike said, and leave a bit more on the left side and then flip the image so that the dark weight of the tree is on the left and the sun no the right.   Posted: 07/15/2021 22:04:28
