Hanging Yarn by Lynne Royce

September 2021 - Hanging Yarn

About the Image(s)

Took this photograph last week of our grandchildren looking at art project of 6,000 strands of yarn hanging from Casino ceiling on Asbury Park's boardwalk in New Jersey. The temporary display of yarn blowing in ocean breeze is supposed to represent people mingling after being isolated by pandemic. No ocean breeze on day we visited. Can't imagine patience took hanging 6,000 strands of yarn. Took photo with Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G and processed through Snapseed.

Love your image Lynne. Your granddaughter pointing up gives the image action. I am kind of glad that there was not big breeze the day your were there. You have a foreground middle ground and background. Great colors. Your timing was right on. For me you caught that decisive moment. Outstanding image. Jerry   Posted: 09/03/2021 07:57:12

A judge at a club competition would probably ding this image because it includes your grand kids in the foreground, but I think it works. The comparison between the kids and the figures at the far end of the space gives the viewer a great sense of scale. I might have cloned out the little orange figure at the far end that pulls your eye away from the granddaughter's pointing arm.   Posted: 09/03/2021 07:59:49

What an exhibit that is! I found it interesting to read your explanation which goes so well with the image. Together they make make a wonderful story.   Posted: 09/04/2021 06:39:08

Wow, there is so much about this image, bright red color, lines/texture, depth of field (long tunnel), walls acting as frames, and including the human interest. Great Photo!   Posted: 09/06/2021 12:23:23

What an interesting exhibit. Everything comes together to make this a very pleasing image and a memory with your grandchildren. Your granddaughter reacting to the exhibit is an added bonus. Well done.   Posted: 09/06/2021 17:26:10

I agree with you, the installation must have been time consuming. The result is pleasing, though. The red color attracts my eyes and the layers of yarn hold my interest. Your framing is good. The bright end of the building pulls my eyes through the scene. Your granddaughter's primary blue shirt and her upraised hand draw attention to her. Nice shot.
