If you live anywhere in the Mid-Atlantic this summer taking a photo of a cicada is mandatory! They are a bit eerie and I tried to accentuate that quality.
This was processed in Painteresque and then cropped in Snapseed. Snapseed worked poorly this time. I have no idea why.   Posted: 07/01/2021 12:50:22

Sounds kind of crazy but Crop first and then use Painteresque and see what happens? It also would be interesting to also try going to Stacks - View Edits and just paint Painteresque on the background and not the Cicada? Just an idea. Jerry   Posted: 07/01/2021 15:22:33

Very interesting image. The cicada starts to disappear into the background, hiding from its enemies so to speak. Taking the angle where the bug goes corners to corner adds more interest and creativity to the image.   Posted: 07/05/2021 09:28:49

Cicadas are noisy little critters. Just one can make quite a racket, and a large group can be nearly deafening. Even with that, they are interesting insects. I agree with Dave that the crop works well for this long slender bug. An attached sound file would have been great!

I think I'm glad we don't have those critters here in the PNW. I had to look closely to see the cicada as he does blend in with the background. I agree with Jerry about masking the bug and removing Painteresque from him. I would like to see his details.   Posted: 07/12/2021 18:33:44

Jerry makes a good point about using Painteresque only on the background. I think here it's use on the bug took away useful detail. Good placement in the frame. Can you remember this for the next swarm?   Posted: 07/17/2021 18:35:48
