Cows In Field by Lynne Royce

March 2025 - Cows In Field

About the Image(s)

COWS IN FIELD: While walking around my friend's farm in Connecticut in November I was captivated by patterns made by the abundant dry grass in the field. Also loved the remains of an old stone wall; a signature of fields and woodlands all over Connecticut.

Lynne, I love your story telling about the scene. I grew up in a small town surrounded by small farms. Most of the settlers in my home town were of Swiss Decent. My name is a Swiss Name. Growing up where I did, there were many scenes like this. We had time to roam around in scenes like this. You brought back many memories. My first thought was about the "cows"? They do not look like milking cows or Bulls? They could be young bulls that have been fixec to becoming ready for butchering?

I also like how you did not over saturated the image which gives a true feeling of the area. Jerry   Posted: 03/05/2025 09:49:40

Jerry you made me laugh cause my farmer friend is always correcting me when I say cows for some of their farm animals. They do have some cows cause run an extremely popular ice cream parlor on their farm. They make the ice cream. Glad photo brought back memories of your childhood.   Posted: 03/05/2025 09:59:26

See my comments to Jerry. Very interesting how similar your images are this month. The textures in your image have great power and make the scene work well. Nice job.   Posted: 03/05/2025 13:42:41

I like the composition. I think the tree adds a lot to the scene and it tells the story about the season. The animals add to the landscape. As Jerry mentioned, the image is not over-saturated which makes it feel natural. The lines of the vegetation and the rocks lead the viewer's eyes to the tree. Nice capture.

Nice pastoral scene. Maybe trim some off the top and darken the outer edges in order to guide the eye into the center?   Posted: 03/06/2025 13:23:49

Another very pleasing country farm scene. I would suggest cropping more off the top while keeping the lower part of the tree and the remains of the stone wall. In my opinion the dead grass does not add to the composition. You might even think about a panorama.   Posted: 03/09/2025 20:05:51
