About the Image(s)
Early September went to the Belmar Pro Surfing which covered for decades with my Canon DSLR and a long lens. Pulled in surfer by enlarging Samsung Galaxy S21 Phone Screen with my fingers. There are six surfers competing at same time floating on their boards waiting for the right wave. Photographer has to pick one surfer and follow him/her as navigating waves snapping camera rapidly as never know what is going to happen. This was my best capture for this surfer. Cropped in Snapseed.

Nice job! It is hard to believe surfers can ride waves this small, or are they bigger than they look in the image? I think leaving the boat at the horizon with a narrow sky was a good choice and the placement of the surfer is perfect.   Posted: 10/02/2024 18:16:37

Two issues made this photograph hard to shoot. Sadly for the surfers there were absolutely no waves that day. This also resulted in surfers being further from shore.   Posted: 10/02/2024 18:40:12

Lynne,Richard's comments are my feelings also. Outstanding work and very creative composition. This need to be printed and framed. Jerry   Posted: 10/02/2024 18:38:44

Great action photo! I have tried to take a photo like this many times, but have found it very hard to do. It takes an instant reaction to clearly capture "the moment" as you did!   Posted: 10/03/2024 04:00:06

Shooting sports action with a mobile device is a challenge, and you were up to it. Even if the waves were smaller than expected, there is good action. The colors are good, and the inclusion of the boat adds scale and context. I like it.

You had a difficult challenge. I don't know if the Samsung has a "live" mode on it as the iPhone does. If you do have that choice you could try that as it captures a series of images before and after you click the shutter button and then you can choose the best image out of the series. I think you can do the same thing in video mode but I have not tried it. I'm in a different camp as for me the boat in the corner is a distraction. My eye keeps getting pulled up there and to me the boat has no connection to the surfer. It's always fun to try new challenges.   Posted: 10/10/2024 23:49:16

Think I was using boat to compensate for a so-so surfing photograph cause surfers didnt have challenging waves to ride. Most of the professionals didn't even compete. Annual surfing competition always held in September as usually an offshore storm kicking up huge, powerful waves. Maybe next year.   Posted: 10/16/2024 14:31:07

The yellow really pops against the blue. While the wave isn't huge, the arms of the surfer show good action as does the angle of the board. If the boat was cropped there might be too much ocean so some of that would need to go also.   Posted: 10/13/2024 21:27:26
