I am taking a class entitled Photography as Art. For this past semester, each assignment required that we take the photograph in monochrome and do no edits other than cropping. This particular assignment was to have a subject in light but with other areas of the photograph to be in various degrees of shadow. For this I used my box and a cube light. My only edit was to crop.

Hi Chuck, I appreciate your candid opinion. This is the original. It was done for a class called Photography as Art and we were to take the photo in camera with no editing except for cropping. Mary Ann, I have to agree that slightly more light (as in Cindy's edit), particularly on the newspaper add more interest and brings out more detail on the french press. Lovely composition and a great choice for monochrome. Posted: 05/11/2023 21:04:20

Composition is nicely done. Is too dark, but easy fix. With the brighter version, there are little white spots on cup I would clone out. Tells a great story. Posted: 05/12/2023 09:37:15
