About the Image(s)

Old Aquaduct in Zutphen

I shot this old structure over the canal branching off the River Ijssel through the town of Zutphen on our trip to Holland over Christmas. Taken with my Fujifilm X-T10, 1/25th sec at f/4.5 ISO 800. A 46mm focal length allowed me to include more of the scene (original unedited) than I intended to end up with in the cropped version. I am never sure at the time of capture what I will want to frame in the final image so my philosophy is "more is better to begin with". I am not sure whether I prefer the colour or BW version - I like the hues in the colour but also like the way the reflections seem to stand out more in the monochrome. Your thoughts?

Lorna, Im with you both images have different interest qualities. The mono is a wall hanger for sure. I glad you didn't crop it more. No help needed here.

Lorna, I like how the textures and the reflections really stand out in the monochrome version. I do think color enhancements, etc would make the color version just as appealing. Nice image   Posted: 05/05/2023 17:07:36

I like this scene and the reflections in the water. I get the feeling of a quaint town in Europe. Both the monchrome and color versions are nice. Good eye! I would suggest cropping out the building to the left. It seems that the porches are a little too modern for the scene and don't add anything to it. I cropped the phot and added a vignette.   Posted: 05/07/2023 13:37:23

Cindy, yes I like your crop. I agree about the more modern railings. My thought was about not cutting out any of the boats. But I also think your version centers the reflections more in the frame and results in a more balanced image. Thanks!   Posted: 05/08/2023 21:40:56

I really like the B&W. This is hard as I agree about the modern porches, yet with wall it keep you in the image. Between the wall and the water at the bottom, it forms a nice "L" shape. Love the detail. Makes me want to go there.   Posted: 05/12/2023 09:29:51

The reflections in the right arch seem to be a blur as to the reflection in the left. I like Cindy's catch and crop on the left. You might want to crop the right at the arch to see what you like. Strong image.   Posted: 05/12/2023 15:00:45
