About the Image(s)

I took this in November where birds migrate near where I live. It was a very overcast day and the setting as well as the textures seem to make this image a good candidate for monochrome. I used siver efex pro in the Nik collection to edit. I am interested to see if the group thinks the composition and exposure work.

I used the Nikon d500 with the tamron 150-600 lens. The shutter speed was 1/2000; f/6.3; 600mm ISO 100.

I love the reflection and dark reeds sticking up from the pond. The goose being centered in the frame, makes the composition feel stati. I do like that he is looking into the frame, though. For my taste, the photo and especially the goose, is too dark. As I went to lighten it in Photoshop, I thought it would make a wonderful high key image. See what you think.   Posted: 01/06/2022 09:33:50

Cindy, thank you for your comments and edit. I do like the high key effect and the crop on the left takes the bird out of the center.   Posted: 01/11/2022 04:51:35

Making it high key is better as is cropping out the reeds on the left. Giving the bird some room to move forward adds interest. It might work as a square crop. Yes, the bird needs more detail as Cindy has done. An interesting subject to photograph.   Posted: 01/06/2022 10:40:41

Thank you, Chuck. I do like the high key effect and will try out a square crop.   Posted: 01/11/2022 04:52:25

Mary Ann, I like your BW conversion of this image from the original - bringing out more of the detail in the feathers was a good call while keeping the interesting abstract look of the reflection. I do like Cindy's crop and lighter, more high key look.   Posted: 01/12/2022 09:12:50

Your conversion from the original is considerably better. Some of the detail is missing, though, such as the area at the tail. Otherwise a good conversion.   Posted: 01/16/2022 16:37:03
