About the Image(s)

Description: Having stopped sugary drinks I usually have a glass of water during the day. Thought it would make a good monochrome image because of the different tonality and intensity the light makes of the ice. What do you think? Fujifilm XPro2, 23mm lens, ISO 1600, 200 th, f/2.8. Processed in Luminar AI to a color image, cropped, then converted to Black and White. Am including the original unedited image.

You come up with the most interesting things to photograph! I like the square frame and the composition where the glass is sitting on the V tip of the placemat. The dark background shows off the rims of the glass and the ice very well. I favor the monochrome over the color.   Posted: 10/11/2021 12:27:47

Thanks, Cindy. One thing I learned about photography is to make pictures of something interesting. First and foremost. Many times it does not work and we keep trying.   Posted: 10/11/2021 14:40:10

Chuck, I, too, prefer the monochrome and the closer square crop. The light coming in from the left side is effective but I wonder how adding just a little back light might impact the image. I really like your dark background and selective focus but would like to see a little more tonal variation in the ice cubes. Yes, a very unique, interesting image.   Posted: 10/11/2021 16:35:15

Hello Chuck. I love how the ice looks like clouds. It feels ethereal to me...especially in the color version which I really enjoy. The colorful reflections, for me, emphasize the ethereal/celestial quality that I find really successful and beautiful. I love the black background and like a more subdued surface for the glass to sit upon. So to complicate things I like the glass and background from your first original and the more subdued colors of the table in the 2nd original. I might even like the glass to be on a flat one color/hue surface. Nice capture of light and reflection.   Posted: 10/15/2021 12:57:39

Chuck, this is a very creative and interesting photograph. I like how the ice cubes look like they are swirling in the glass. The tones and texture of the subject lend itself to black and white. You can see the lines around the glass and the textures in cloth on the table. I do like this in black and white but I also think the color refractions on the glass in the originals are nice too.   Posted: 10/15/2021 18:14:22
