Waves by the Lighthouse by Cindy Lynch

September 2021 - Waves by the Lighthouse

About the Image(s)

Taken on a windy day with lots of waves crashing against the pier. There were nice clouds in the sky that were gray. Being overcast and windy the colors were not good in the sky or water, so I decided to convert it to monochrome. It was difficult to hold the camera still with the heavy winds. Settings: f/8, 1/160 sec., ISO 100 and 110 mm focal length.

What a great image showing the power of the water. I sure am happy you did not do a time exposure as that would ruin the story this tells. If you were making a print ISO 100 is OK although higher may work better for purpose of publishing online.

Wow - a powerful image, Cindy! Beautiful tonal range with the darkness/moodiness in the sky and the water giving us a strong sense of being there. I like the way you have framed the dark lighthouse perfectly in the light area in the clouds. In spite of the wind, a sharp capture of the waves and the spray - I can almost feel it!   Posted: 09/10/2021 15:11:18

This is a extremely textural photo...almost smudgy or gritty which has a very interesting and very artistic feel to it. I feel the energy of the storm and sand and waves and even salt (I don't know if there really was any). It communicates a lot.   Posted: 09/15/2021 17:27:53
