About the Image(s)

I took this in Door County (one of my favorite places) 2 years ago, again at a Clearing class in photography. I liked the way the piece of equipment looked like a brontosaurus. I think transfer to B&W turned out OK. How about you?

This is an interesting scene with a nice sky. For my taste, the photo is little light and could use more contrast. I used the Black & White adjustment and adjusted the color sliders to darken.   Posted: 07/08/2021 21:47:52

It is overall a little too dark for my taste.   Posted: 07/18/2021 14:48:11

What Cindy did works well, it needs more contrast to make the clouds pop more, as Cindy showed.   Posted: 07/13/2021 17:36:11

I did some adjusting and ran through ON1 No-Noise to reduce the noise of the clouds. Here is the mono. I don't think it turned out as well as I expected as the sky is a bit light.

Interesting photo. I also like what Cindy did with increasing the contrast. Remember you can have a color version and mono version that is different. Sometimes I'll have the two versions in lightroom. Also, if appropriate to the subject, I'll check the histogram for each version.   Posted: 07/14/2021 09:48:14

I enjoy the extra large still life nature of your photo. I also enjoy the complementary colors of your original. I like the increased darkening in the black and white. I might be a bit gentle in my sky manipulations as too dynamic a sky could detract from the "still life." Beautiful.   Posted: 07/16/2021 13:23:47

This is an interesting capture, as Kerry says, an extra large still life. I think Cindy's darker, higher contrast version works well, but I also like the way the foreground subjects "pop" more in your ON1 adjustment, Paul. Perhaps some dodging and burning would produce a combination of the two, with darker, more contrasty skies but also more foreground detail. The colour ON1 NoNoise version is a little too vibrant for my taste.   Posted: 07/16/2021 13:51:27

Paul, you have made the adjustments suggested very well on both the color and the monochrome versions. Don't change a thing. Good work.   Posted: 07/18/2021 14:50:27
