Deer Skull in Fence by Alan Kiecker, QPSA

July 2021 - Deer Skull in Fence

About the Image(s)

I have to admit this photo is a bit unusual. Our camera club has an upcoming topic “Fences”. On a recent trip to Texas to visit our son whom we had not seen in a year and half due to the pandemic, we came across this fence with the skull of a deer attached to it. I had to stop and take a few photos!

Technical:
Nikon D810, 28-300mm lens @ 150mm, 1/80 sec @ f/11,ISO 64. Processed in Lightroom.

I do like the picture. My only concern is it seems too bright everywhere and I cannot appreciate the contrast.
In my humble opinion I would tried with BW image, or putting down the saturation of the other colors, to you get more attention to the skull. Not sure if that will improve or not. In any case good job Alan!   Posted: 07/28/2021 17:56:05

What an unusual image! Makes you stop and look more than once for sure. Since the subject is the skull and antlers, the background is too distracting. This could be solved if the f stop was wider open at say f5.6 or 4.0. That would throw the background into a softer blur.   Posted: 07/28/2021 20:43:21

Love the image... death and life sitting at the fence in a patch of flowers... almost metaphoric. I see that the blur is in the background. I like the sharp images around the skull... blending of death and life.   Posted: 07/31/2021 21:34:39
