IN THE MOMENT by Lloyd Delaney

September 2021 - IN THE MOMENT

About the Image(s)

> I took this image at Warner Center Park doing a concert featuring emerging artists. I volunteered to be a “staff” photographer for the organization that put on the event. It was a great opportunity to get close to working musicians. I tried a variety of exposures with and without flash. However, this is one of my favorites because it captures the vitality and joy of the moment. It was shot at f14 and 1/15th of a second. I used a 50 to 150 f2.8 lens on my Olympus micro 4/3 camera and no flash. ISO 1600. It was dusk and there were some stage lights

It looks like you did not finish your info about the image. It's an interesting image but I would probably have preferred it to be a little sharper.   Posted: 09/06/2021 10:54:12

Thanks for letting me know about the incomplete post. It is now corrected. I was going for the feeling of her being in the moment, so I used a slow shutter.   Posted: 09/06/2021 21:59:07

Thanks for finishing your info about the image. I see why you did it and I think you accomplished your goal.   Posted: 09/06/2021 22:04:02

Lloyd, I like the interesting abstract effect you created. I'm wondering, did you move the camera or hold it steady and allow the performer's movements to create the blur? I notice that the background is also blurred, which is why I'm asking.   Posted: 09/07/2021 16:26:49

I did move the camera as I made the shot and the vibration reduction was able to focus more on the endpoint (see her hand). I like working events and street photography with a slow shutter.   Posted: 09/10/2021 11:12:21

I'm sorry I'm going to pass on this because I don't feel that i can do it justice. I was never a big fan of abstract as I usually don't understand or appreciate the result. I do like the colors but as I said, other than that I don't think I would be fair to you. Hope you understand.   Posted: 09/09/2021 20:43:50

I understand. I used to spend most of my time in the logical left brain and now I lean to the right in my art. Sometimes I am out of my mind altogether…   Posted: 09/10/2021 11:14:07

Lloyd, I like it! I can feel the loud rock music, performers moving radically to the music all over the stage and the crowd involvement. You captured it! Would make a good poster for the band.   Posted: 09/11/2021 14:13:50

Now that I've read all the comments I must admit that I think more like Bev and I'm sorry to say I don't really understand what the rest of you see in that image. You are definitely entitled to your opinion though and maybe someday I'll have a broader outlook.   Posted: 09/12/2021 14:31:52
