About the Image(s)

This image was taken at the Saint Augustine Alligator Farm Rookery. The Tri-Color Heron leaves the nest and fishes along the river and ocean then comes back to the nest and regurgitates its catch to feed its young. Was shot with a handheld Nikon D850 with a Nikon 200-500 mm F5.6 lens. Image was taken 1/800th of a second at f/6.3 using ISO 1600. Taken May 19th 2021 at 8:41 AM. Wish the leaves were not blocking the other chick!

Welcome to our group! I love your image and thought "he must be good" so I read your bio which confirmed that. I just read an article in a recent PSA Journal about the Alligator Farm and we have been there once but I never got an image that was close to this one. I am especially impressed that you could hand hold this equipment and get such a great shot. This image makes me want to go back to the Alligator Farm and I'm looking forward to more great images from you.   Posted: 07/23/2021 12:34:52

Hello Tom, welcome to our group! You made a wonderful capture. It is also nicely composed. Maybe a slight vignet would add to the image.   Posted: 07/23/2021 13:45:09

Hi Tom, welcome to the group! What an amazing bird photo! The detail in the mother and the chick is wonderful. Did you have to wait and watch the nest a long time to get this shot? I also loved going to the Anhinga Trail in Everglades National Park. It's a great place to see a lot of birds. My husband got some great shots of purple gallinule there.   Posted: 07/26/2021 10:11:40
