About the Image(s)

I took it at Oaklawn Racetrack in Hot Springs, AR last week when I accompanied some of my camera club friends down there to get some shots. As you can see, I did a big crop on it first. Went into Nic and worked in Silver Efex Pro 2 changing it to black and white. I added the frame in Nic also. It was shot with my Canon EOS Rebel T 6i, f5/6, 1/2000sec.,ISO 800, 250 mm. I thought the black and white worked well and with the different effects in Nic it took on a vintage look. I also did some adjustments getting rid of noise in DeNoise AL. I titled it "Disappointment" since this jockey had just lost his race.

His face tells the story. I adjusted his face just a tad to make it a bit lighter. Other than that, a great story that leaves one wondering about his expression and the cause for it. Well done.   Posted: 05/05/2021 06:02:00

I love what you have done with this image. I've only just started using the Nik collection so this is great to see. The image enhance feature that is new in Photoshop might be also something to think about if you need to blow this up or need a higher resolution file. You could also experiment with adding just a bit of sharpening just to the eyes perhaps.   Posted: 05/05/2021 06:12:48

At first I thought this was an old photo and I love the expression on his face. Your black and white rendition is much better than the original color one. I would not do anything else with it.   Posted: 05/05/2021 08:12:12

Jamie, it's a great capture. When I looked at the photo, his face drew me in immediately, making me wonder what happened. Your edits do a really nice job of focusing the full attention on his face.   Posted: 05/05/2021 10:18:41

I agree with the other comments. The black and white treatment is perfect. Not only does his face show a sense of disappointment but also the angle of his shoulders and the rest of his body. Great crafting of the moment.   Posted: 05/05/2021 22:07:45
