About the Image(s)

I had seen images of this church online and decided to check it out while en route to the NECCC conference last month. Conditions for photography were rather difficult, at this angle I was shooting into the bright sun, and construction work was going on along the side of the church. I was using both my camera bodies with my 24-105 on my newer body and the 10-20 on my older body, a Canon 40D, which I used here because of cramped area from which I could shoot. To get a good set of brackets covering the entire dynamic range, I did 6 shots at 1-1/3 stop intervals from -3-1/3 to +3-1/3 stops, which necessitates two 3-shot bracket groups (the maximum the 40D will do in auto bracket). So a few seconds elapsed between the first 3 and the second 3 (I've included the -3-1/3, -2/3, and +2 stop brackets here, but all were used in creating the tone map). The major problem was a couple of cars that came across in the higher exposure brackets. But when I took them into the new HDR feature in Luminar and specified ghost reduction based on the -2/3 stop image, the software performed excellent, removing all trace of the cars, but leaving the sky looking somewhat strange. So I took the tone mapped image together with the -2/3 stop image into Photoshop and masked out the tone mapped sky.

The next task was to try and remove the construction equipment. I worked for over an hour using content aware fill, clone stamp, spot healing brush, and healing brush, and while not perfect (there are a few strange color variations and a blurry spot), I think I did quite well. Please let me know your thoughts.

You did well, Don. Nice and sharp, good color too. My only other comment is that I see a halo around the top portions. I don't know what you can do about, if, indeed, you even want to.   Posted: 08/05/2022 16:58:41
