About the Image(s)

A few weeks ago, I took a day to drive out into the country in search of old barns and other interesting material. I came across this old barn where the trees and weeds have taken over. I shot the usual 2-stop brackets and processed the result in Nik HDR Efex Pro 2, using a "grunge" preset to emphasize the decay of this structure. This also put noise into the sky, so I layered the image with the darker bracket in Photoshop and masked out the HDR sky, lightening the resulting sky a bit with a curves adjustment layer. I also used a combination of content aware fill and healing brush to remove a fence post, and then cropped the image slightly. Enjoy!

What an interesting image. The selection of "grunge" was an excellent choice and it really gives the barn the look you were after.   Posted: 11/07/2021 17:18:27

Don, I like this image a lot. I am a Grunge lover anyway but in my opinion it is not overdone. Very realistic image! Like the barn offset to the right and actually being able to see through it. Makes it more interesting. You were lucky enough to have some great clouds also. Well done.   Posted: 11/08/2021 20:01:56

This is well done, grunge works for me too. I would have liked to see more barn, a bit less foliage.   Posted: 11/11/2021 04:15:07

There really wasn't any chance to have more barn (moving to show one side would remove the effect of looking through it). Perhaps I could crop off a quarter or half of the foreground foliage.   Posted: 11/11/2021 09:23:45
