About the Image(s)

It was taken on our recent cruise up the coast of Norway. Vardo is the most easternmost town in Norway and our guide took us on a walk through the town to the castle. It was very windy and bitterly cold so taking pictures in such conditions was a challenge. There was an attractive break in the sky and I managed to get this shot of the castle. I straightened and cropped the image and adjusted the levels and shadows to bring out some detail in the buildings. It was taken at ISO 400, f8, 1/200 sec.

I admire your ability to take photographs in such a hostile environment. You were fortunate to capture the scene during sunset when the light was warm and subdued. It gives the scene a lonely, isolated mood. My eyes travel between the tower and the cannon with the nice sunset in between. Nicely captured!   Posted: 06/05/2022 07:45:52

Interesting scene, and harsh conditions for a photo.

Now, about the image, there's two points worth mention:
- sky overexposed, white out in some area, see if you can adjust highlight some.
- obvious ghosting around cannon, and structure on the right, especially the vertical line, I'm not sure what caused it, but visible.   Posted: 06/05/2022 20:18:19

Thanks Charlie. I have two monitors at home and on one it looks as I intended and on the other it looks over exposed. I will profile both monitors again and see if I can improve it based on your comments.   Posted: 06/06/2022 01:57:41

I was amazed at how much you were able to bring out of the scene. Your original capture looks so dark. But you were able to bring out more interest in the sky and some interest in the castle structure and the cannon. Well done!   Posted: 06/11/2022 23:56:23

Your post processing brought out nice details in this photo. As Charlie said, a couple sections of the sky are blown out and there is a light halo around castle and cannon. I think it is worth working with a little more.   Posted: 06/15/2022 06:48:06

I don't know what to say about this picture. I don't know how I would attempt to improve it photographically.   Posted: 06/24/2022 21:45:09

It is a great sunset, or sun raise landscape image? I thought that a contrast could be enhanced in the snow in the foreground so that the details would be revealed.
