Grand Canyon Vista by Phyllis Peterson

January 2022 - Grand Canyon Vista

About the Image(s)

It was taken in August 2021 at the Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona.
The camera I used was Nikon D810 with a wide angle lens, 14-24mm and I used a tripod.
The camera settings were 1/200 sec at f/18, ISO 200, 14mm

There was extreme difference in exposure for the sky and the land. So, I processed the image in Adobe Lightroom with a linear filter to lighten the lower part of the photo without changing the sky. Then I increased the clarity and vibrance.
I also used a vignette after cropping slightly.

What a beautiful shot! Perfect lighting, gorgeous sky, and great composition. The post processing is very natural and realistic. There is interest in the foreground (green foliage),middle (canyons) and background (sky). I only wish the top of the clouds wasn't cut off. It can be fixed in Photoshop with a little work using the content-aware crop though.   Posted: 01/03/2022 08:09:18

What a beautiful landscape photo. This is one of my favorites of yours. As David said, you have an interesting foreground, midground and background. The golden light on the valley near the center really balances the composition. Love the cloud! Very nice!   Posted: 01/05/2022 11:14:05

I think the sidelight you captured makes the textues in the landscape really pop out. In my opinion you have frames this well - my eye moves smoothly frome the foreground through the canyou to the dramatic cloudscape. I feel this image is very well-done.   Posted: 01/10/2022 13:16:52
