Green Milkweed by Charlie Yang

January 2022 - Green Milkweed

About the Image(s)

Now, this is an image of a green milkweed, summer, in a high quality preserve, even so, I only get to see 5 of this plants, and only one in bloom and in seeding, ready to blown away to populate.

Taken with D850, 28-300mm, @ 300mm, F/9, wind calm, 1/80s, on tripod, on slope.

Post process with Topaz AI sharpen, denoise, crop, and shadow+, highlight-, that's about it.

One of my problem is the composition, or what else I can crop it to, or any other way to make it better, or this is it, leave it along,

I love milkweed images...even more than dandelions. I wasn't aware of the many varieties of milkweed and haven't noticed this green milkweed variety before. I wouldn't change the cropping at all, but I might suggest adding a vignette to accentuate the center portion.   Posted: 01/03/2022 08:13:59

Milkweed is such a valuable plant because the Monarch butterflies rely on this plant for food. You have gotten the plant very sharp and you can see all the filaments of the plant. They would stand out even better if you could somehow darken the background. I also wouldn't crop it quite so tight. Nice job!   Posted: 01/04/2022 16:25:26

Your nature photos just keep getting better and better. This one is very nice with great details. My only suggestion would be to darken or remove the two bright horizontal lines to the left of the milkweed. Nice job!   Posted: 01/05/2022 11:11:29

I would leave the image just the way it is. This is nature. I am unable to offer any suggestions to make it "better".   Posted: 01/07/2022 20:59:29

I like the sharpness of the plant and particularly the coma (I think that is what the white hairy bits are called). There is a nicely diffused background which helps the plant to stand out. It is not a plant that we see in UK so it is of particular interest to me.   Posted: 01/21/2022 03:14:24

I like the very sharp image of the silk like white hairs. I wonder whether it could be enhanced more in the contrast so that the white hairs would be stand out more from the background.   Posted: 01/27/2022 01:31:12
