Sandy Creek Covered Bridge by Cindy Lynch

January 2022 - Sandy Creek Covered Bridge

About the Image(s)

This covered bridge is just outside of St. Louis County in Missouri. On the ride to the bridge, I passed some beautiful fall foliage, however, when I got to the site, the colors were dull. I was disappointed but managed to get the gold leave in front of the red so they stood out. It was one of my first outings with my new Nikon Z6 and I was pleased with it. Settings: f/5.6, 1/160 sec., ISO 100 and 26 mm focal length.

This is a lovely sharp image and the colours are very attractive. The fence provides a good lead in to the bridge and I like the position of the seat which also leads the eye towards the bridge and provides balance with the bridge. There is nice texture in the tree on the left but it is quite dominant in the image and I can't make up my mind whether I would crop a bit out.   Posted: 01/02/2022 11:26:27

A nice serene image of a covered bridge with lots of texture in the surrounding foliage. The red color of the bridge draws one's attention to it, and the fence, path and bench all lead one's eye to the bridge. I like the contrasting dullness of the foliage with the bright bridge. In fact, I might suggest darkening and/or de-saturating the bright yellow leaves a little so that they don't call too much attention to them. I also played around with the image in Lightroom using the radial gradient tool in the masking option to darken everything except the bridge.   Posted: 01/03/2022 07:13:33

I like what you did. I am going to go back to my original and do the same. Thanks.   Posted: 01/05/2022 13:32:40

What a peaceful, serene setting. You have an unerring eye for country landscapes. My eye is certainly comfortable looking at this scene. The fence is crucial to leading your eye from the bench to the red covered bridge. I actually like the golden leaves on the upper part of the image but I do like the radial gradient that David used to darken everything except the bridge. Great job!   Posted: 01/04/2022 16:20:43

I like the radial gradient lighting effect too.   Posted: 01/05/2022 13:33:14

haha, a good image, and a better one, per Dave's mod, interesting.

I like the original Cindy's, while everything seems right in place, and nothing to change, but not sure what's it, but Dave's edition, make it apparent.   Posted: 01/06/2022 20:20:24
