Lone Tree at Bryce Canyon by Phyllis Peterson

December 2021 - Lone Tree at Bryce Canyon

About the Image(s)

The location for this photo was Bryce Canyon National Park in Southwestern Utah, USA.
I timed my photography of this area for about 4:30pm so that I could get the late afternoon side-light which set the rocks aglow.
My Camera was Nikon D810 and lens was 50mm f/1.8. Settings were 1/500sec at f/16 and ISO400.

This is a beautifully composed landscape image with so much texture. The late-afternoon, side lighting makes the orange rocks, well, rock. Maybe a little too much saturation though. If you have the raw file, you might try reducing the orange saturation as it might help bring out more detail in the rocks.   Posted: 12/03/2021 06:31:39

Wow, this image is a feast of bright colours and made me sit back at my computer screen. The tree is well placed in the scene and I like the textures in the rocks. There is a pleasant contrast between the purple at the top and the orange of the rocks. I think I might desaturate the colours a little because they are very strong on the monitors of my laptop and my PC.   Posted: 12/05/2021 16:04:27

This is a beautiful scene and I agree with the others that the saturation is a little too intense. I wonder if your original has a little more room around it. I would like to see a little more of the greenery in the lower right and the rest of the light, taller rock formation in the top left. Cropping too tightly, especially in landscapes, is something I have been trying to work on.   Posted: 12/16/2021 09:38:31

My immediate reaction to this image is that it looks over-processed. Is the original orange color really that intense? Good composition with the tree included.   Posted: 12/17/2021 11:16:17
