December 2021 - Airport

About the Image(s)

Photographed in the Denver airport while waiting for the next leg of my flight. I used the camera in my phone, a Samsung A20, and gently processed the image in Picassa. The nose of a plane suspended from the ceiling of the terminal building adds to the interest. This monochrome treatment of the original is a slight improvement over the original color image.

Having a degree in aeronautical and astronautical engineering, I'm fascinated with airplanes, and as an engineer, I find the geometric patterns of the beam structures quite interesting. As a photograph though, I'm not sure what should be drawing my attention - the airplane nose or the geometric beam structures. I like the image as a B&W, but the image seems a little flat and might be improved with more contrast.   Posted: 12/01/2021 10:49:04

Your image really captures how immense the ceiling of the airport terminal building is. Your eye keeps going up. When I first looked at the image I didn't know what the shape was on the left. Then your description described the nose of the plane. I think I would have liked to see the entire plane or a part of a plane. However, your image is a study in monochrome and it highlights line, shape and perspective. Great job!   Posted: 12/02/2021 15:41:01

This is a good architectural shot and the aeroplane identifies the building as an airport. I suspect that the colour of the aeroplane might have dominated the scene and converting to black and white was the best thing to do. There is a little bit of mystery in that I wonder what the two figures at the bottom of the scene are doing. I agree with David that some more contrast would improve the image but it is an enjoyable shot.   Posted: 12/05/2021 15:48:49

I wonder about the two people, which I did not see initially. They could have been used as subjects in a type of street photography.   Posted: 12/17/2021 11:52:43

A nice, sharp image with great details and the scene seems well-suited for monochrome. Very nice! Other than adding just a touch more contrast, I wouldn't suggest anything else.   Posted: 12/16/2021 09:31:00
