Songshan Ciyou Temple by Bai Chuang Shyu

September 2021 - Songshan Ciyou Temple

About the Image(s)

This temple, built in the mid-18th century, is the cradle of development of the Songshan district, Taipei city. The top of the temple roof is richly ornamented; in addition to human figures, there is also a flying dragon placed there because dragons were believed to have the power to prevent fires.
My Nikon D-810 was on tripod with f/4, 1/5 seconds and ISO of 64. Local enhancement of contrast and saturation was done in Veveza 2. The image was taking a Vignette filter in Color Efex pro4. Image was finally cropped in PhotoShop.

So much to see here!! Considering its age, is there constant work being done to preserve this temple? If I had been photographing this subject, I would have zoomed in for close-ups.   Posted: 09/01/2021 14:09:17

There is a lot of intricate detail in this temple roof, but it is difficult to appreciate the fine details with this small image format. Perhaps an image with more pixels would help with the resolution.   Posted: 09/01/2021 17:13:00

Love the details and love the colors. So much to see and you gave it an interesting and unique composition, although it makes me want to see more. The plain blue sky really sets off the roof nicely. I did notice a litte noise in the blue, though. That can eaily be fixed with the noise reduction sliders in Camera Raw.   Posted: 09/02/2021 08:58:23

I so enjoy seeing your pictures of Taipei. This reminds me of our visits to the Lungshan Temple when we lived in Taipei in 1988-89.
The color is great, and I like the detailed view, but I think the vignette is a bit too dark on the right side.   Posted: 09/04/2021 09:43:50

Fascinating figures and fine colors! Would like to see more. I would like to see a close-up and learn about the details but I don't see how without missing out on all the rest. The subject is so detailed that I would need to see several photos.   Posted: 09/10/2021 09:39:51
