About the Image(s)

Visited a formal garden in West Palm Beach by the name of "4 Arts Garden". Took several photos and liked this one best of all. Shot in RAW, 36mm, 1/500 sec., f 5.6 and ISO 1000. Adjusted the photo by increasing contrast, blacks, clarity and vibrance. Lowered exposure, increased luminance to 100% to eliminate noise and cropped.

I like what you did to the image to bring out the contrast and clarity, but I'm not sure about the cropping. In some respect, the original image seems better in that you can see the entire cluster of lily pads and intricate stems, and the single flower provides a point of interest. However, the reflections and other lily pads are very distracting. If you can clone those distractions out of the original image and add a dark vignette along with your post-processing, you might have a stronger composition.   Posted: 09/01/2021 17:02:37

I agree about the reflections. But the lily pads provide the needed context.   Posted: 09/01/2021 18:18:25

I was referring to the other lily pads in the upper left and right corners.   Posted: 09/01/2021 18:29:43

Your post processing is excellent and really enhanced your photo. For my taste, there is a little too much in the frame which makes your focal point seem small and insignificant. I would suggest a closer crop.   Posted: 09/02/2021 09:28:48

Thanks to you and David. I am reevaluating my decision to leave most of the lily pads in.   Posted: 09/02/2021 10:26:51

The flower and the interesting patterns on the pads make the image but crop top and right.   Posted: 09/04/2021 10:10:22

The flower and the surrounding lily pads produce very nice composition. I like to see the reflection which made irregular patters. The center subject is the flower and the lily pad and complicated stalks did make distraction.
