Flowers in Barn Window by Ray Henrikson

July 2021 - Flowers in Barn Window

About the Image(s)

Photographed recently at June Farms near Albany, NY. The white flowers in an orange pot caught my eye and I thought there was artistic potential here. I like the partial framing by the window and the dark background with a hind of farm implements in the shadow. I used a Nikon D7100 and did minor editing in Picasa.

The orange pot of white flowers does catch one's eyes. It does seem a little out of place, but it makes you wonder why it was put there. I like the compositional placement of the pot of flowers, but wonder if all the wood structure in the foreground is needed...maybe crop some off the bottom and the left?   Posted: 07/01/2021 12:14:31

I think it was put there so a photographer, like myself, would have an interesting subject!!   Posted: 07/11/2021 14:41:47

I thought I agreed with David so I opened it in photoshop and got rid of most of the window frame, leaving just enough for a border, and then adjusted the image to size. Once I increased the size, the flowers were not sharp so I took the image into Photoshop and using Topaz Sharpen AI, increased the sharpness. I'm not sure, however, if it is an improvement.   Posted: 07/07/2021 09:17:42

I PREFER MY ORIGINAL VERSION WITH MORE WOOD AND THE FRAMING IT OFFERS.   Posted: 07/11/2021 14:38:09

This photo has impact and the contrast of dark and light is very eye catching. I like the composition. I was wondering how it would look if the foreground wood was a little darker as it pulls my eye to the edges.   Posted: 07/08/2021 21:34:45

I LIKE WOOD AND ITS TEXTURE. THE BARN STUFF IN THE SHADOWY BACKGROUND HELPS, TOO.

By including only part of the window you certainly set up some tension. I like what you have done. Red and white is a good combination for this photo. My eyes are quickly drawn to your subject. Well done.   Posted: 07/09/2021 17:10:45

Very nicely framing of a window and flower. I would favor keeping the present version. The window and the wall are part of the frame. The background inside the room is dark thus the outside of the window should be a contrasting light. I also feel the white flower is too bright and lost the details.   Posted: 07/30/2021 07:37:08

The wood framing definitely sets off the flower bouquet. I like the wood texture and the texture of the farm implements in the background. It definitely tells a story!   Posted: 07/30/2021 16:30:00
