About the Image(s)

The photo of San Xavier del Bac is an historic catholic mission located 10 miles south of Tucson, AZ on Indian
grounds. I shot this in the early evening. When I took this photo, light on the buildings was getting leaving and my goal was to preserve the color
in the sky as much as possible. I lightened the buildings in Lightroom.

Camera Settings: shutter: 1/200sec, aperture: f/7.1, ISO: 1100 at 42mm

A very peaceful image evoking a sense of calmness and serenity. You captured the lovely sunset very well and brought out the foreground nicely. My only comment would be that there appears to be too much unnecessary information on the left side of the image. The leading lines point to the rather uninteresting tree and take my attention away from the main subjects - the steeple and and lovely sky. Perhaps cropping the left side of the image up to the end of the wall and fixing the perspective would enhance the image by creating a frame for the main subjects.   Posted: 06/01/2021 07:22:33

David, I like your suggestions for cropping out the left side. That would put focus on the bell tower and the gate. However, I didn't want to cut the photo in half with the wall line. It would seem to lead the eye out of the photo.   Posted: 06/22/2021 16:37:52

Lovely building, nice architecture. The silhouette of the bells and tower are very nice and the purple plant in foreground matches well with the sky colors and wall and gate. Too bad the sunset appears past its peak. More sunset/sunrise color would greatly enhance this photo.   Posted: 06/01/2021 13:08:58

Don, I totally agree about the sunset being past prime. I was most disappointed that the colorful clouds were off to the left. I need to return when the colorful sunset is behind the bell tower and the gate. Thanks for your suggestion!   Posted: 06/22/2021 16:39:33

Such a great scene and I like the angle from which you took this shot. There is so much to look at and I like exploring the details of the scene. I like the composition and focus. My only suggestion is to lighten up the foreground just a bit so the viewer can enjoy that as well.   Posted: 06/10/2021 10:15:25

Cindy,
Thanks so much for your suggestion to lighten up the foreground. It does enhance the photo. Thanks for your good suggestion!   Posted: 06/22/2021 16:40:58

like what you done with the original, crop out the left edge, and it seems that bell tower is your focal point of the image, then perhaps crop out some more of the left-end would be my next step. Cindy's suggestion of lighten up a bit on the front flowers would be nice too.   Posted: 06/15/2021 15:13:32

Here is a slight crop of the original image. Plus I lightened up the foreground and enhanced the color in the sky and straightened the perspective somewhat. It was impossible to crop much off the left because it would crop out too much of the gate and the plants in the foreground. Thanks for the comments and suggestions!   Posted: 06/22/2021 16:52:00

I like it, but would back the magenta color just a bit in Camera Raw, Color Mixer.   Posted: 06/29/2021 15:29:53

Very beautiful scene of sunset. I agree that there is many unnecessary information in the picture. The lighting up and enhancement of the color make great improvement.   Posted: 06/29/2021 01:19:50
