About the Image(s)

Took this photo at the same place as the April photo. This Great Egret was looking at me and it's eyes immediately caught MY eyes. The colored eyes indicate it is breeding. Shot in RAW, adjusted by reducing exposure (I usually shoot slightly over exposed), reduced contrast, increased Black point and cropped.

This is a great egret photo. :-) Sorry about that. I like the idea of cropping the image to have the colorful face amidst the white fur. However, the image can be improved if the face were more centered and the dark fur areas brightened. I made some changes in Photoshop using content aware crop tool to expand the white feather on the right. I also brightened the yellowish parts of the fur and used the clone stamp tool to fill in the dark areas of the fur.   Posted: 05/03/2021 20:28:31

I like your idea of filling the frame with the face. The green and orange colors are really highlighted this way. I like the changes that David made to the composition and might suggest adding a slight vignette to keep the eye in the center of the frame. The eyes are in good focus and draw me into the image.   Posted: 05/06/2021 09:54:07

I liked how you chose to crop the photo down to the face. I like the face centered but I do like the original color and texture of the feathers in the original photo-more realistic. Very compelling stare on the Great Egret!   Posted: 05/09/2021 18:51:32

nice face, and intense.
one observation though, the breeding green, usually seen much lighter, not as this contrasty.

A great capture of a vivid look! It is a great idea to cut the rest of the body and only leave the head which significantly stand out as the focused point.   Posted: 05/27/2021 05:18:11
