First Light on Bandon Beach by Max Burke, APSA

July 2021 - First Light on Bandon Beach

About the Image(s)

This was taken at Bandon Beach, Oregon just as the sun hit the rock stacks. It was taken on Sept 12, 2017.
The Nikon D750 and 24-120 f4 lens at a focal length of 35mm, one-stop HDR with 1/15, 1/30, and 1/7 second exposures with a tripod. ISO of 100. Used Photomatix Pro 2.1 version to process. Selected "photographic" setting. Processed with Photoshop adjusting lighting and used feathered masking of the low horizon to bring out the colors at this time of the day. I purposely left the misty feeling of the base for realism. The rocky stacks were also masked to be close as they were when working on the rest of the image. The mask was reversed so I could bring out the detail in the shadowed areas.

Good impact, nice colors and a smooth blend. My only wish is that we were close enough to the pool to have the top of the sea stack showing.   Posted: 07/11/2021 19:35:55

Really nice image. The only thing I would suggest is maybe burn in the horizon line a tad.   Posted: 07/17/2021 01:22:31

This is an image you could have some fun with while shooting and only include the sand and reflection in the water since the sky was empty.   Posted: 07/19/2021 11:42:57
