Waterfalls with Cloud Stacking by Lisa Cuchara

July 2021 - Waterfalls with Cloud Stacking

About the Image(s)

Taken with my Olympus 12-100mm lens on my Olympus EM1 mark iii with a 10 stop Breakthrough Technology ND filter and a polarizer attached. ISO 400 f8 Taken using live composite, 43 6-second exposures stacked in camera using lighten blend mode for a total exposure time of over 4 minutes. The first 6 seconds exposes for the ambient light (the white clouds) and then only new light is added. The bottom of the image was done via HDR because otherwise the waterfall was too dark. Three exposures, one stop apart.

This is fun. The upsweep on the clouds contrasted with the drop in the water flowing over the dam yields two very different feelings even though both depict movement over time. The color tones are very nice.   Posted: 07/11/2021 13:08:33

Pretty cool effect, the clouds almost look like they were painted on by very large brush strokes. You cannot tell there was any HDR work done and the blend of the 2 exposures is well done.   Posted: 07/19/2021 10:44:57

You pulled off some great creative work on this one. It is something I need to do to experiment more on trying images doing something different. All exposures and blends worked well. Enjoy the scene and effort you made.   Posted: 07/20/2021 21:32:37
