October 2024 - IKE Donut

About the Image(s)

During our day out at sea, we got explore most parts of the carrier. We came across an area with a cool pontoon boat this cool red donut. This is a 6 stop bracket from -4 (outside) to -1 to capture the whole range was merged in LR. After basic adjustments, went to PS and create some additional punch and texture with Color Efex 6.

Well done Brad. Selecting subjects in an artistic composition works in this scene. The window was well done and the red life life saver and it to me is the main subject. But the way you put it together tells a story. You named it using a"Punch and texture." The protrusion of object far left, I would take out. It would make a finer wall continuation at that point. Regardless, this picture is an historical one for the "Ike" Carrier Ship.   Posted: 10/08/2024 20:53:50

Your HDR treatment brings out all the details from the bright outside view to the darkest areas. I would crop out or clone the curtain or whatever it is on the far left edge of the image, and perhaps also the rectangular object at top right.   Posted: 10/23/2024 19:42:19

Smooth blend and realistic look for the lighting you had. I feel you did indeed give the life ring and rope canister (?) the punch you describe. I can see what Max and Don are saying on the left and, while it may no longer be true to the ship, I am inclined to agree with eliminating that part of the structure. I did find it interesting that so much rust shows in the floor area even though she is an old and venerable lady. (It is also curious why we refer to ships as she but then name them after men or things like states.)   Posted: 10/24/2024 01:43:36

I love the grey and rust and the bright red. The tone mapping is well done.

I agree about the lower far left being eliminated.

It is kind of esher-like, at first it looked like a vertical photo posted horizontally, until I saw the window. The supports on the left threw me.   Posted: 10/24/2024 02:16:45
