Noosa Sunset by Alex Cohen

June 2021 - Noosa Sunset

About the Image(s)

This was shot June 5th just after the sun had set. We were out traveling along the Lake Erie shore in a town called Northeast in Pennsylvania. Initially we wanted to catch the sunset at Sunset Beach but decided to try a nice little restaurant, named Noosa, up at the top of a marina. It was incredible! And the sunset from the back outdoor dining area was equally incredible! Shot with my Canon R6, 24-105 lens F4 at 24mm 1/40 HANDHELD! Yes, handheld at 1/40 just resting on my knee as I squatted down. The R6 in camera stabilization is fantastic!

You have captured a great sunset sky at the marina Alex. I feel it is properly exposed and I like the order and symmetry of the boats at their docks. Were you trying for a leading line into the shot with the stairway? It works, but I feel that it is a bit distracting and limits the viewer from fully enjoying your photo. I think you want us to see the sunset and the rows of boats docked for the evening. A consideration for next time would be to shoot from the edge of the center dock giving more boat detail (center and both sides) while still capturing the beautiful sunset. Of course then you would lose the advantage of height and might need to make other adjustments. So many choices!

Choices, I know. I think this might have worked if the center row of boats was at the bottom of the stairs. BTW well done for handheld.   Posted: 06/14/2021 13:31:48

Thanks Bruce. I did get some much better sunset shots from above the stairway, that somewhat captured the boats more. I was somewhat trying to capture more of the layout of the area while still maintaining a good sunset background.   Posted: 06/11/2021 09:35:57

Hi Alex, This is a beautiful place. This is a really nice snapshot to document this place that you have made memories at. I agree with Bruce on all points. The walk way is distracting. The sunset is your subject.   Posted: 06/12/2021 12:48:19

This image (to me) tells a story. The stairway is the untimate leading line. I can picture myself walking down those stairs. So it does tell a story quite well. The sunset doesn't have to be the subject if it is part of the story. I would get rid of the cars in the parking lot.   Posted: 06/12/2021 15:26:19

Cannot believe how steady it is but with the lens at 24 mm that is also a factor into the steadiness. Nice order and symmetry and leading lines. I do agree with all the above and would like it shot from higher up. Removing the cars would be good but difficult to do well. Very nice view.   Posted: 06/20/2021 16:21:57
