About the Image(s)
Several years ago I was walking in Atacama, Chile when I came upon a parade of costumed people and a marching band. Since then post processing tools have evolved along with my ability to use them. Lately I have been pulling out old images to see if I could improve them with today’s tools. For this image, I wanted to make the skeleton character the center of focus. I desaturated all colors except orange, cropped, and did some burning. I chose this image because it its with the October theme of Halloween.

I love it. I think your technique to draw attention worked perfectly. The framing is also excellent. The people on the left and right fitin a well framed way where nothing of interest is cut off or left out. Only thought I had is that the guy with the hat at our right is a slight distraction and can be burned in or blurred. Very nice image bunny. Especially, it looks like fun.   Posted: 10/17/2024 19:58:05
I agree I need to work on that hat! Thanks for the suggestion.   Posted: 10/28/2024 09:38:16
Wow! Great crop. Keeping the orange and the face on the right gives this a surreal quality that adds to the story here. The faces "reach" out to the viewer. I can feel excitment.   Posted: 10/17/2024 21:07:55
Thanks Mark.   Posted: 10/28/2024 09:37:46
By desaturating all colors except orange, cropping, and doing some burning, you have popped out the main subject well. I would not change a thing! Well done!   Posted: 10/18/2024 03:14:06

Bunny, your use of selective color on this monochrome really makes it pop. You have isolated the subject nicely from the blur of color in the original and are telling a story too. I like the tight crop which further accentuates the subject. Just in time for Halloween!
Might I suggest your take a brush set to desaturate and touch the face of the women on the right and the one in the back left. They still have a bit of orange on their faces which can be easily remove.   Posted: 10/18/2024 14:21:29

Hi Bruce,
I deliberately left those bits of orange in as a subtle accent. However, I will try what you suggest. Thanks!   Posted: 10/28/2024 09:37:18

This is a fun image. I might be inclined to remove the face on the back left and faces right back side. The masked faces
are your subjects.   Posted: 10/27/2024 20:45:34

Good suggestion! Thanks!   Posted: 10/28/2024 09:36:21
I really like your use of selective color, Bunny. You've maintained the texture and clarity throughout the rest of the image, and your transition from color to monochrome is perfect. The only change I'd make to the coloration is to remove the orange from the other faces behind our subject. As far as the people to the right, not in costume, I'd be tempted to try the clone stamp to try to get rid of them. Maybe sample some of the background texture?
We have our local Dia De Los Muertos celebrations going on around here. This image really caught my eye. Great job!   Posted: 10/28/2024 22:38:03

Thanks for your suggestions Andrew. I consciously left the orange in as an artistic choice, but given that two people mentioned to remove it, I will reconsider that choice. I will work on lessening the visibility of the white hat in the background.   Posted: 10/29/2024 02:13:01
