About the Image(s)

This is a daffodil focus stack in my series on ages of flowers. I hope the spider silk is visible in the low resolution images that we must use. It confirms the general conclusion that spiders are nearly everywhere all the time.
Here is a general recipe for making comments useful in our discussion group. No matter what you think of an image, say whatever you can about the features or properties that you like. Then separately, say what changes would have made you like the image more. We are here to learn from one another so that concrete statement about what you like and what can be improved are far more helpful than "Great image". A true discussion can be enormously helpful in our development as photographers.

Excellent detail and texture. Composition strong. You filled the frame well. I especially like the blurred reference of a stem on the right. Adds interest. Yes I do note the spider web. I have no suggestions for improvement.   Posted: 06/10/2022 15:57:42

This is sharp and well exposed. I think the shadow on the right has to go. For me it has little interest. I think a much tighter crop is needed.   Posted: 06/10/2022 23:55:53

I have tried it with and without the stem on the right. Without it, the shadow on the upper left looks to me to be a little weird. Without both, it feels to me like there is too much dead space. I don't see how to crop more tightly on the left or right, and the image feels unbalanced if I crop more from the bottom. Could you please show me what you have in mind.   Posted: 06/11/2022 09:55:18

Robert I am glad to see you are continuing with your project. I also can see the web, so no problem there. I like the crop as well. I tried a couple of other crops, but I thought they made the image less interesting. If I have any "critique" it is that for me the flower is overly detailed due to the focus stacking. For me it makes it appear too harsh. The background is excellent.   Posted: 06/13/2022 13:04:38

Thank you. With respect to feeling harsh, I agree with you, but to me they seem less harsh in a print 24 x 19, so this may be one of those images whose impression is size dependent.   Posted: 06/15/2022 16:23:55

Good observation about printing. Also, dependent on the paper or if on canvas.

Hi Robert, I like the composition of the image. I also like that you have captured all the details in the flower, including the spider web. Have you tried removing both the dark greens from the top left and the bottom right?   Posted: 06/13/2022 13:24:13

Yes, I have tried removing the dark greens, see above, but since a couple of you think that this would improve the image, I should try it again and perhaps adjust my esthetics accordingly.   Posted: 06/13/2022 13:58:39

A very nice sharp image. I also feel that you have a lot dead space. I would crop some of the bottom and remove the shadow.   Posted: 06/14/2022 20:20:12
