About the Image(s)

This photo was taken on a small road in West Texas. Exposure was 1/80, f/18 and ISO 125. The camera used was a Canon 5D Mark II. The lens was 24-104. I have tried different crops and post processing but nothing seems to help for creating a more compelling image. I do like the power lines. For me they add interest. I do have more canvas. Any thoughts?

Nice image. What I did, I went into Topaz Studio 2. I then ran it through Topaz Denoise and Topaz Sharpen. Did a tight crop, removed the telephone and wires. Then went into Topaz and used the Dark and Dramatic, which darkened the shadows and rust on the side of the Bus. This gave a little more punch to the image.   Posted: 05/03/2022 13:49:29

Stuart's changes do give the bus more punch, but at the cost of the wide open Texas sky. I think that I prefer the sky. Maybe try all that Stuart did but omit the cropping? With respect to the composition, it looks like the engine might be missing from the bus. If so, having shot from a little higher vantage point might have made its absence more obvious and have added a little poignancy to the image.   Posted: 05/03/2022 16:10:27

Robert, many thanks for your comments. I am going to clean it up and do more post processing like Stuart did and see how it looks. I do like the wide open sky and the blue contrasts nicely with the yellow bus. Yes, I think the engine was gone.   Posted: 05/05/2022 17:59:18

I like this image as posted, and I like the power pole. I like the saturation and contrast and I don't think it needs more of either. It certainly does have an "abandoned in the desert' vibe, and I think the pole contributes to that. If one just has to Photoshop something, I would remove only the guy wires on the power pole.

Nice image.   Posted: 05/09/2022 15:35:03

Thanks TJ. I appreciate your thoughtful critique. The feeling of abandonment
in the dessert was what I wanted to communicate.   Posted: 05/09/2022 21:51:29
