Time to Sew by Heather-Dawn Joseph

May 2022 - Time to Sew

About the Image(s)

This is a still life image that I took for our club critique meeting.

Still life photography is one of my favorite genres of photography. I love playing with light and manipulating the way it reflects on the subject. I love the shadows that can be created with light and how one simple thing can look so not simple with the manipulation of light. I also enjoy taking simple objects and making them look like more than they are. The following image was taken with my Canon R5 with a 24-105 mm Lens; FL8.5; 1/20 sec; f 6.3; ISO 100. I also love to sew and wanted to represent that part of me in my image. I could have made the shadows more dramatic but decided to keep them soft to keep the attention of the objects themselves and not the shadows

I think you used just the right amount of objects to communicate your image of sewing. I like all the different shapes and the use of repetition from the tape measurers. A fun image and meaningful.   Posted: 05/03/2022 12:33:02

A very nice sharp image. The colors blend together, between the tread, the tape measure and the seizures. Good job.   Posted: 05/03/2022 14:07:33

As in the previous comments, nice and sharp with nice colors. I would prefer that the upper left corner retain the texture that is present elsewhere in the background. I think I am bothered a bit by the faint hints of green here and there in the background textile.   Posted: 05/03/2022 16:04:38

it is very interesting. A still life should be tack sharp. It is not.   Posted: 05/04/2022 08:28:16
