One of the Canals of Bruges by Stuart Caine

May 2021 - One of the Canals of Bruges

About the Image(s)

This was taken a while ago on one of our trips to Belgium and Holland. On one of our boat rides through the canals of the city of Bruges, we past this window with the girl looking out. I thought this makes a lovely picture. It was taken with a 35mm camera, that still used film, most likely Fuji film. I then converted to Digital and worked on it using Photoshop, Topaz and Luminas Ai. What do you think of it?

I added a little contrast. The whites are a little blown.Overall I love the effect of the photo. It is very different.   Posted: 05/02/2021 17:54:18

Thanks Michael, I didn't even notice that. As this was originally a slide ,which I converted to digital, was was busy remove the spots and clearing up her face. I remember which camera I used. It was a Maxium.   Posted: 05/03/2021 08:12:46

I agree with Michael that this is different and interesting. I tried removing the converging verticals of the window that result from pointing the camera upwards, but to me, that removes some of the charm of this shot. I'd prefer it if the F were not so close to the left and bottom borders, and if the peeling paint above the window were either patched or just a little further from the top border.   Posted: 05/02/2021 19:33:47

I noticed the pealing paint, but left it in ,because looking at the brick, the morter between the brick are not smooth ,so that it balanced with the peeling paint.
Thanks again for your comments, that's what our group tries to do. Again welcome to our group.   Posted: 05/03/2021 08:24:25

I was instantly drawn to this photograph. At first glance I thought this was a photo of a print of a painting until I read your description. I kept going back to the women in the window to see her expressions and know what she is thinking. To me, the colors in the photo and the peeling paint on the window tell you a story in itself. Beautiful.   Posted: 05/04/2021 11:23:31
